Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), along with Trident Exhibition Pvt. Ltd., is organizing “India-Medical Tourism Destination 2011” on 2 – 3  November  2011 at Kuwait International Fair (KIF) Ground, Mishref, Kuwait with the aim of highlighting India’s role in providing affordable and quality healthcare to the Kuwaiti people.  

India is a major centre for quality, yet inexpensive medical treatment.  In the year 2010, about 600,000 patients travelled to India from over 30 countries around the globe, mainly from USA, Canada, UK, Russia, the Middle East and Africa for treatment.  The most popular treatments sought in India by medical tourists are transplant surgeries (liver, kidney, heart)  cardiac bypass surgery, eye surgery, orthopedic surgery and  spinal surgeries.  India is known in particular for heart surgery, hip and knee resurfacing and other areas of advanced medicine and alternative medicines.  In 2010 over 10,000 Kuwaiti nationals visited India for treatments related to Cardiac, Spinal, Cosmetic and various other surgeries.

An advance team lead by Dr. Narottam Puri, Chairman  visited Kuwait in July 2011 for preliminary discussions and to promote their event.  During their visit,  Dr. Puri and members of the delegation Col. Vivek Kodikal and Mr. Sujit Gopal met Government official, Doctors, Travel and tour operators etc. who welcomed the holding of the event in Kuwait as it would create awareness in Kuwait about quality healthcare in India.
