PRESS RELEASE
As part of the Festival of India in Kuwait an Indian Folk Dances display was inaugurated on November 10 evening at the Avenues Mall by H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India, and Mr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz Alshaya, Executive Chairman of M.H. Alshaya Group.
Ambassador Malhotra stated that he was delighted to cooperate with the Alshaya Group to show Indian folk dances at the Avenues Mall. While the same dancers were performing daily at Kaifan Auditorium, he was happy that showing Indian folk dance styles in an open public setting made them even more readily available to Kuwaitis and others.
In turn, Mr. Alshaya recalled the centuries old bonds of friendship that linked Kuwait and India, as also his family’s long-standing ties with India. He warmly welcomed the Indian folk dancers to the Avenues Mall and urged that such Indian cultural shows at the Mall become a regular feature. The Indian folk dancers were an instant hit with the audience.
Their vibrant and colourful dances caught the imagination of the large crowd that soon assembled at the venue. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the dance styles and movements as well as the accompanying melodies. On show were the vigorous and pulsating Bhangra from the Punjab, Oppanna – the bridal dance from Kerala, Naga warriors dance, Dandiya from Gujarat, Manipuri Raas, besides a display by Chhau dancers from Purulia in Bengal.
A variety of Indian folk dances will be on daily exhibit [from 4 PM to 5
PM] upto 13 November 2009 at the Avenues Mall [near Dean & DeLuca]. All
are welcome. |
