The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), Government of India is organizing the 12th, 13th and 14th “Know India Programme” (KIP) to provide a unique forum for youth Diaspora of Indian origin to share their views, expectations and experience and bond closely with contemporary India. 

2.         The next three KIPs (12th, 13th & 14th) are scheduled to take place in August - September 09, December 09 - January 2010 and March 2010 respectively. The Programmes are conducted in partnership with State Governments. The States of Karnataka & Himachal Pradesh would be partnering with MOIA for organizing the 12th KIP. The States of Kerala & Haryana will partner with MOIA for organizing the 13th KIP and the States of Rajasthan and Goa will be partnering with MOIA for organizing the 14th KIP. The guidelines/conditions for participation in the above three programmes are given below : 

(a)          The programme is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) in the age group of 18-26 years as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to start. It is open to PIOs from all over the world. A fair mix of males and females is expected. 

(b)       The total number of participants in any of the Programme may not exceed 40. 

(c)       The candidates should either be studying in the under-graduate level or should have completed under-graduation or equivalent. 

(d)       They should be able to converse in English. [They should have studied English as a subject at the High School level or as medium of instruction for under-graduate courses] 

(e)    They should have distinguished themselves in a particulars field and should have abiding interest in India. 

(f)       They should not have participated in any previous Know India Programme or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth.

(g)     They are not permitted to leave the programme mid-way. They are expected to follow the entire programme as a group and stay at places designated/selected for this purpose. 

(h)      Each of the three programmes will be of three-weeks’ duration. Exact dates would be conveyed on finalization of the respective programmes.  

3.        The content of the programme may include the following;

(a)      Presentations on the country, political process, developments in various sectors.

(b)     Interaction with faculty and students at a prestigious   University/College/Institute

(c)     Presentation on the industrial development and visits to some Industries

(d)      Visit to a village to better understand the typical village life.

(e)      Exposure to India media.

(f)       Interaction with NGOs and organizations dealing with women affairs,   

(g)     Visit to places of historical importance/Monuments,

(h)     Taking part in Cultural programmes,

(i)        Visit to places of historical importance/monuments.

(j)       Exposure to yoga,

(k)    Call on high dignitaries, which may include President of India, Chief Election Commissioner of India, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and Ministers in-charge of Overseas Indian Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports. 

4.         The participants are provided the following hospitality/facilities in India:

i)        Local hospitality e.g. boarding/lodging in State guest houses or budget hotels.

ii)         Internal travel as per programme.

iii)        Per diem allowance of Rs. 100/- for out-of-pocket expenses.

iv)        The participants will be granted gratis visas subject to the satisfaction of the Mission.

v)        One way economy class international airfare from Kuwait to India is reimbursable to the participants by the Embassy after successful participation in the Programme. 

5.    Interested candidates may send completed application for the programme to Embassy of India, Kuwait (to the attention of the undersigned) to reach latest by Sunday, June 22, 2009. Incomplete and unsigned applications, or forms not accompanied by photographs would be summarily rejected. The copy of nomination/applications form is given at Annexure ‘A’.
