“Hindi Day 2010 celebrated in Kuwait”

September 14 is observed every year as “Hindi Diwas” across India. With a view to promoting the use of Hindi, a function was organized on the occasion by the Indian Embassy in Kuwait at which Embassy and local staff as well as their family members creatively expressed themselves in Hindi through poetry, elocution, songs and art. The topic for this year was: “The contribution of Bollywood to the promotion of Hindi”. The best presentations received prizes from the Ambassador of India H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra.

The first prize was awarded to Mr. B.S. Bisht, the joint second prize to Mr. M.P. Bhartiya and Mr. Manoj Kumar Mandal, while Mrs. Panchali Das won the third prize. A consolation prize in the non-Hindi speaking category was awarded to Miss Shreya Haldar. Ambassador Malhotra noted that it was particularly heartening that many children as well as several whose mother tongue was not Hindi had enthusiastically participated in the competition, mentioning Mrs. Dhanya Nair and Mrs. Malabika Sen in the latter context. He indicated that certificates of appreciation would be given to all participants. The programme was ably compered by Mr. V.K. Sharma, who also recited his own excellent poetic compositions in Hindi.
