Indian Ambassador hosts Iftar
The annual Iftar hosted by Ambassador HE Ajai Malhotra was held on August 18 at India House in a spirit of friendship, goodwill and brotherhood. The Ambassador conveyed Ramadan greetings to all and expressed delight that so many brethren and friends of India had come together at his residence to break the fast during the Holy month of Ramadan. Amongst those who attended the Iftar were Hon’ble Mr. Mohammad Shafi, Member of Parliament representing the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir, prominent Kuwaitis, distinguished Ambassadors, representatives of the Indian community in Kuwait, and other dignitaries.
On the occasion Ambassador Malhotra pointed out that all religions flourish in India, which has a long-standing tradition of treating each one of them with full and equal respect. He stressed that India took great pride in its unity in rich diversity and in being a multi-religious, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-linguistic society with a strong secular tradition, as well as in its ability to resolve issues through dialogue and democratic means. Ambassador Malhotra added that secularism is one of the pillars of democracy in India and is embedded in its Constitution. He described India as an exemplary secular democracy.
