Indian Foreign Minister in Kuwait for the 50-20-5 celebrations

In response to a special invitation from His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, the Minister of External Affairs, Government of India, H.E. Mr. S.M. Krishna, will be in Kuwait from February 25-27, 2011, representing India at the celebrations marking the 50th Anniversary of Kuwait’s Independence, 20th Anniversary of its Liberation, and 5th Anniversary of the assumption of office by His Highness the Amir. He will be arriving by a special Indian Air Force flight from New Delhi. A delegation of senior Indian Government officials and six members of the Indian media would also be accompanying the Hon’ble Minister.

Minister S.M. Krishna would witness the Kuwait Ground and Air Force Parade at Al-Subiya, attend the National Opera and participate in the Banquet hosted by H.H. the Amir of Kuwait at Bayan Palace on February 26, 2011. He would also meet with other world leaders attending the celebrations. Indian Ambassador H.E. Ajai Malhotra would host a community reception on February 25, 2011, in honour of the visiting Minister, to enable him to interact with representatives of the 640,000 Indian community resident in Kuwait , which is the largest expatriate community in Kuwait .

Speaking of the 50-20-5 celebrations in Kuwait, Ambassador Malhotra emphasized that “It is with great enthusiasm and joy that India and the entire Indian community in Kuwait joins our Kuwaiti brothers and sisters in celebrating these three landmark events in the modern history of Kuwait”. He also recalled Minister S.M. Krishna’s official visit to Kuwait in February 2010, which had “reaffirmed the deep-rooted, traditional friendship between India and Kuwait as being exemplary, characterized by warmth, mutual respect and complete understanding”.
