             The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), Government of India organizes the “Know India Programme”(KIP) periodically to promote awareness of India’s socio-cultural diversity, all round development etc., among the Diaspora youth. The Know India Programmes provide a unique forum for youth Diaspora of Indian origin to share their views, expectations and experience and bond closely with contemporary India.

           

2.         The next two KIPs (10th & 11th) are scheduled to take place in December 2008 – January 2009 and March 2009 respectively, exact dates will be intimated as and when intimated by MOIA. The Programmes are conducted in partnership with State Governments. The States of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana would be partnering with MOIA for organizing the 10th KIP. The States of Punjab & Orissa will partner with MOIA for organizing the 11th KIP. The guidelines/conditions for participation in the above two programmes are given below :

 

(a)       The candidates should either be studying in the under-graduate level or should have completed under-graduation or equivalent.

 

(b)       The candidates should be able to converse in English. [They should have studied English as a subject at the High School level or as medium of instruction for under-graduate courses]

 

(c)       The programme is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) in the age group of 18-26 years as on the first day of the month in which the programme starts.

 

(d)      Each of the two programmes will be of three-weeks’ duration on internship basis. Exact dates would be announced on receipt of confirmation from respective State Governments.

 

(e)      The applicant should not have participated in any previous KIP or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth (IPDY).

 

(f)      The applicant is expected to abide by the regulations governing   the programme, offer full cooperation in its smooth conduct and should not leave the Programme mid-way.

 

(g)     The total number of participants in any of the Programme may not exceed 40.

 

3.         The content of the programme may include the following;

 

             (a)      Visit and stay at a University/College/Institute.

             (b)      Activities related to youth to be organized by Nehru

                        Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangatah (NYKS).

             (c)      Visit to Industry(ies).

             (d)      Visit to a village.

             (e)      Exposure to Indian media and Film Industry.

             (f)       Presentations on the country, the constitution, political  

                        Process etc.

  (g)     Interraction with NGOs and/or organizations dealing with

            Women affairs.

  (h)     Calls on high dignitaries, which may include President,

            Ministers of OIA, Youth Affairs and Sports, Women and

            Child Development.

   (i)      Visit to places of historical importance/Monuments.

   (j)     Cultural events.

                    

4.         The participants are provided the following hospitality/facilities in India:

 

 i)         Local hospitality e.g. boarding/lodging in State guest houses or budget hotels

 

           ii)          Internal travel as per programme.

 

          iii)          Per diem allowance of Rs. 100/- for our-of-pocket expenses.

 

iv)        The participants will be granted gratis visas subject to the satisfaction of the Mission.

 

v)         One way economy class international airfare from Kuwait to India is reimbursable to the participants by the Embassy after successful participation in the Programme.

 

5.    Interested candidates may send completed application for the programme to Embassy of India, Kuwait (to the attention of the undersigned) to reach latest by Tuesday, October 7, 2008. Incomplete and unsigned applications, or forms not accompanied by photographs would be summarily rejected. The copy of nomination / applications form is given at Annexure ‘A’.
