 INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL; APRIL 2-5, 2008

             The Embassy of India, Kuwait is organising an Indian Film Festival from April 2-5, 2008.  This is the first such venture of its kind. The Festival will showcase three recent highly successful Hindi feature films – ‘Chak De India’, ‘Veer Zaara and ‘Black’.  

            The main objective of the Film Festival is to further develop and consolidate the already existing strong cultural ties between the State of Kuwait and India.  It will be an important mechanism to expand people to people contacts between the two countries. The Festival comes at a time when both India and Kuwait are looking at ways and means to further strengthen the mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between them, particularly in the economic, trade and investment fields and in the cultural sphere. 

            The inaugural event of the Festival will take place in Sha’ab Cinema on April 2, 2008 at 1700 hrs under the auspices and in the esteemed presence of His Excellency Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of Information of the State of Kuwait. The inauguration ceremony will be followed by the screening of the film ‘Chak De India’. On subsequent days, the three films, viz. ‘Chak De India’, ‘Veer Zaara’ and ‘Black’ will be screened as a part of the Festival in Granada Cinema, Khaitan at 1800 hrs each day on April 3, 4 & 5 respectively. All the three films have Arabic subtitles.  

            The entry for all the film shows is by invitation.   Invitation cards have been distributed by the Embassy of India on the basis of requests received on a specially created email which was given due publicity. There was a large response from both our Kuwaitis friends and Indian nationals. 

            Five actresses from the ‘Chak De India’ team are visiting Kuwait to participate in the inaugural function of the Film Festival. These are Ms. Vidya Malavade, Ms. Shilpa Shukla, Ms. Chitrashi Rawat, Ms. Arya Menon and Ms. Shubhi Mehta.  During their stay in Kuwait, the five artistes will also have an opportunity to interact with students of various Indian schools in Kuwait in a programme to be held on April 3, 2008 at 1000 hrs in the Gulf India School, Fahaheel. 

            The Film Festival is being organised in partnership with the Kuwait National Cinema Company. The main sponsors of the Festival are M/s Kuwait Indo Trading Company Limited (KITCO) and Crowne Plaza Hotel, Kuwait. Jazeera Airways has provided special courtesies for the travel of the five Indian artistes.
