PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS 2007

The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is organising the fifth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) from January 7-9, 2007 in New Delhi.  The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the Institutional partner of the Ministry for organising the event.  The three-day Conference will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the valedictory session would be attended by the Hon’ble President of India.  The inaugural session will be held in Talkatora Stadium.  The Conference venue is Vigyan Bhavan.  Chief Ministers of various States, besides senior officials of the Government of India and State Governments are expected to attend.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, held annually, aims at bringing the expertise and knowledge of the Indian overseas community to India and integrating it into India’s development process. It also provides a base to highlight the networking opportunities and to collaborate with them to confer a mutual development platform.

As in the previous years, around 2000 overseas Indian delegates are expected to attend the Conference.  The special highlights of the 3-day Convention will be the Plenary sessions on diverse themes with eminent speakers; interactive session with the State Governments; Business Networking; trade and industrial exhibition to showcase India’s economic capabilities and an exhibition to highlight the art and cultural heritage of India. Cultural shows and cuisines from different States of India will also be on display.  The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is also organising an exhibition which will showcase various services, States, Public Sector Undertakings and NGOs and other focussed issues in which participation is open to both Indian and overseas entities.

A separate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2007 website www.pbd2007.org for on line registration of delegates has also been launched.  The website gives details of the Conference and other events to be organised during the Convention.
